The idea behind Hawking's studio is to reflect that of technology through airwaves. As such the design is aimed towards that of an aerial to encapture the airwaves.

The central platform in Darwin's Studio has evolved through a variation into that of box. As this box has a purpose to provide shelter it continues to be replicated.
